Reyo market report · Newsletter Blueprint 2026

Newsletter structure: how 281 brands build their emails, block by block.

We took apart 2,164 newsletters from 281 brands in 13 industries: every block, every subject line, every button. The result is a blueprint of how the typical newsletter in your industry is built for a sale, a promotion, a special or content. Once you know the standard, you decide where to follow it and where to stand out.

Three of eight findings

The frame is the same everywhere. The difference lies in between.

The blueprint opens with eight findings on how an email is built. Here are three of them.

  1. 01
    45 %

of all mails greet the reader by name

Greeting by name splits the market in two.

Pet supplies 83 %, pharmacy 75 %, DIY 69 %. Fashion, on the other hand, 23 % and sport 31 %. What is the rule in one industry sets you apart in another.

  2. 02
    38

    characters, the median subject line

The subject line is short, the preheader is set.

In no industry is the median above 45 characters, and 91 % of mails set a preheader. On a smartphone, most subject lines are cut off after about 40 characters.

  3. 03
    1 %

of all mails have a countdown

    The gaps are opportunities.

Dark mode adjustments appear in 24 % of mails, animated images in 22 %, a countdown in 1 %. Whoever uses them stands out from the market.

The other five findings (the shared frame, emojis by industry, tiles with and without prices, discount and code by occasion, the most common buttons) are in the blueprint.

The standard newsletter

Four blocks are almost always in.

Hero, text block and footer are in 97 %, 99 % and 98 % of all newsletters, a further image in 90 %. In between, the leeway begins: greeting, offer box, a single button, image tiles and social icons each appear in 40 to 50 percent of mails.

The median newsletter has 174 words, 10 images and 4 buttons or links with a call to action. The blueprint draws this sketch for every industry and every occasion the data covers: 46 blueprints in all.

Method

Every blueprint rests on at least five brands.

The data comes from the Reyo mailboxes: German newsletters sent between 3 October 2025 and 30 October 2026, 97 % of them from June 2026. Included are industries with at least eight brands, at most 80 mails per industry and occasion, and at most six per brand, so that heavy senders do not dominate the picture.

A preprocessor reads each email’s HTML in reading order, assigns every element a role and groups the elements into blocks. Links, addresses, names and voucher codes are removed in the process. After cleaning, 2,164 mails from 281 brands remain. No brand can be identified, no mail is quoted.

Text that only exists inside an image is missing, including prices and discounts printed into images. Black Friday and Christmas 2026 are not in yet. All values describe what is common, not what works.

The blueprint also exists for your competitors.

We can build this analysis for every single competitor: their typical newsletter, block by block, next to the standard of their industry, with everything they do differently from the market.
